Police arrived and were told partygoers were "killing each other" in the backyard. The officers found a large brawl and told the participants to stop fighting.
The officers used pepper spray after their commands were ignored. Balafas said the combatants became angry and aggressive toward the officers.
Balafas said the bride, Angela Davito, 28, charged after another partygoer and had to be restrained. He said Davito, who was wearing a white dress and brown cowboy boots, then kicked a police officer in the groin and was arrested. Charges of assault and obstructing governmental operations are pending.
According to police, the groom started a fight with some wedding crashers who were dancing too provocatively with the bride.
Gilbert Fire Department personnel treated several people for pepper spray exposure.
